Walton County borders Covington County and Geneva County in Alabama and Holmes County, Washington County, Bay County and Okaloosa County in Florida.

Walton County was created in 1824 and was named after George Walton, Secretary of the Florida territory from 1821 to 1826

The Beaches of South Walton are a 26-mile stretch of beaches on Northwest Florida's Gulf Coast. They are found among 15 beach communities: Seacape, Miramar, Sandestin, Dune Allen, Santa Rosa, Blue Mountain, Grayton, WaterColor, Seaside, Seagrove, WaterSound, Seacrest, Rosemary Beach, Inlet, and Aly's Beach.

The sugar-white beaches and emerald green waters are a major attraction for vacationers. More than 40 percent of the Beaches of South Walton are preserved through state parks and forests. The area is ideal for hiking, biking, kayaking, or fishing.
