Escambia County Florida

Escambia County was established on the 22nd July, 1821 but before that it was inhabited by the Creek and Poarch Indians. Escambia gained its name from the Escambia River which is a Spanish word for "exchange" or "barter". The Poarch Creek Indians have a reservation in Alabama which is on the border of Florida. Many tribal members still live off-reservation in Escambia County. The County Seat of Escambi is Pensacola.

Escambia County is situated on the western most point of Florida. It has three adjacent counties of which two are in a separate state. The counties which lie adjacent to Escambia County are Escambia County and Baldwin County in Alabama and Santa Rosa County in Florida.
